Nikon D200 Soup | White-tailed Deer

9/30/2021 Nikon D200 Soup | White-tailed Deer

Nikon D200 Soup | White-tailed Deer    This White-tailed Deer was walking through the woods of northern Michigan on an early spring day in late afternoon.  As it walked, it would stop to look around.  It spotted me even though I was using my vehicle as a bind.  Then, it stood for a very long time looking at me while continually scouting the area.  With all the light brown background, it was hard to know if any of my clicks were good.  The trees and branches would move due to the wind.  Either a branch was in the way or the deer blinked or suddenly moved.  Finally, it stopped, looked, and Click!  The deer then turned a walked away.  After looking at the images in post processing, I realized only the last couple of clicks were keepers.

The Back Story  This image was captured with a simple click while using my vehicle as a blind.    Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Looking Forward

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Looking Forward    This curious deer silhouette seemed like an ionic scene of White-tailed Deer in a snow storm.  They were far enough away to feel safe, yet too curious to just leave the area.  White-tailed Deer are a curious lot.  As long as they do not feel threatened, they want to know what’s happening.  To me, it’s just amazing how curious they are.  For snow images, see Snow Makes the Image | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story  This image was captured with a few simple clicks after walking outside into the back yard.  Sometimes the best camera is the one you have in your hands.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

In Search of Snowbirds | Fawn Surprised

Northern Illinois | 1/01/2016 4:48 pm CST | Mostly Cloudy 26°F Windy

In Search of Snowbirds | Fawn Surprised    Most White-tailed Deer fawns are born April through July.  So, on January 1st,  this fawn was 6 -7 months old.  At birth, white tail fawns have a white spotted reddish coat. The spots help the fawn to camouflage itself.  The fawns lose Their spots within 3 to 4 months after birth.  So, this fawn has lost its spots, but is still pretty small.  It seemed to be both curious and brave because it did not move as I walked by on my walkabout in search of snowbirds.

The Back Story    Another simple click along my walkabout route on New Years Day.
