Yellowstone Sepia Snow | Coyote Normally, I don’t like wildlife images in a B&W format, but this image seems to work. This coyote is hunting for voles during the first snow in Yellowstone. Coyotes are very good at finding the voles. They can hear them in their underground burrows. For the whole story with all images, see Yellowstone Sepia Snow | a 7 Image Story.

Coyote When it’s -26 below zero in the woods, it’s hard to remember it’s only 28 days until spring.

This Yellowstone Coyote, hunting for voles, paid no attention to us motorists, along the road through Hayden Valley in Yellowstone. Without the Nikon 1 V1 and the 70-300mm lens yielding 810mm with the 2.7 crop factor, there’s no way I could have captured this image.

This coyote mother was very busy relocating her litter of pups. In the image, she is on her way back to the pups after already relocating several. After watching her for over an hour, I could not really get a fix on where she had the pups. Obviously, she did not like the location because she was moving them. I really wanted to capture an image of a pup in her mouth as she carried it. Unfortunately, she took a more indirect route when she had a pup in her mouth. And, I did not want to disturb her.

Another Coyote Spring your clock ahead if you want. But, if it’s spring, voles should be easier to catch. Look at all this snow. Somewhere under this winter snow is a nice tasty vole. Hope spring arrives before next winter.

One Coyote to Another Yep, if you want to spring those clocks forward tonight, go for it. But, one coyote to another, it’s still winter out here. Do you have any idea how hard it is to capture a vole with the snow so deep? No one wants spring more than a coyote.
