Bighorn Sheep Thinking of Yellowstone! Winter in Yellowstone after the first snow can be the best time to visit.

Several herds of Bighorn Sheep roamed Yellowstone NP this week. Actually, it’s the largest number of Bighorn Sheep I have ever seen in the park. They’re so majestic. They seem to be more comfortable when they standing on the side of a hill or mountain. Just walking down the road does not appeal to them. For you photogs, this image would have been impossible if not for the Nikon 1 V1 with the 70-300mm lens making it 810mm with the 2.7 crop factor.

Bighorn Sheep seemed more plentiful this winter at Yellowstone than I have seen in prior visits. The snow cover in Yellowstone this winter was very thin compared to most years. Perhaps, the thin layer of snow allowed them to roam more freely.

Badlands Sunrise There’s nothing like getting up at o’dark thirty to capture sunrise at the Badlands NP. It’s hard to know whether to look for landscapes or wildlife; or both.

This young Bighorn Sheep came up behind me while I was trying to capture a few images of a large ram just over the next hill in the Badlands NP. It scared the tar out of me and blocked my way off the rocks. After waiting quite along while, it finally retreated and I was able to capture this image while it was maneuvering down the hill.
