Extra! Extra! | Busy Busy Bee

11/28/2021 Extra! Extra! | Busy Busy Bee

Extra! Extra! | Busy Busy Bee   The bee lives lass than 40 days, visits over 1000 flowers, and produces less than a teaspoon of honey.  For us, it’s just a teaspoon of honey.  For the bee, it is a life!   Thank you, bees!

The Back Story   Focusing with an extension tube is always fun; sometimes even challenging.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Extra! Extra! | Bumble Bee

9/25/2021 Extra! Extra! | Bumble Bee

Extra! Extra! | Bumble Bee   In case you are wondering, Bumble Bee can also be written Bumblebee.  Bumble bees are very social.  They live in colonies, have different divisions of labor and have overlapping generations.  Bumble bees are also excellent pollinators of many crops.  They are able to fly in cooler temperatures and lower light levels.  Thus, they can begin their work earlier in the spring and carry on later in the fall.  They can also “buzz pollinate” where they use their wings to vibrate loose more pollen.

The Back Story   Had to capture a burst of clicks in order to get a no movement image at 1/100s.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Extra! Extra! | Juvenile Katydid

9/18/2021 Extra! Extra! | Juvenile Katydid

Extra! Extra! | Juvenile Katydid   Katydids are named because of the sound they make.  They have extremely long, thin antennae.  They have wings and can fly.  Nymphs (juveniles) look more like crickets or grasshoppers.  Katydids eat the leaves from the tops of trees and bushes.  They can be found in parks, gardens, fields, and woods.

The Back Story   An extension tube reveals the detail in the Katydid.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon 1 V3 Hodgepodge | Contour Close   The naked eye can only get so close.   Macro photography can give you a very different perspective which is better than the naked eye.  Just look at the amazing detail in a simple flower.

The Back Story  My walkabouts tend to take longer in the spring.  It takes time and patience to capture nice macro images especially with a manual focus lens.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.
