The Lone Tree | Yellowstone

The Lone Tree | Yellowstone

The Lone Tree | Yellowstone  The acidic or alkaline water and steam runoff from nearby geysers killed these trees. Several geysers are steaming in the background. The water steam flow periodically floods the area, killing the lodgepole pine trees. Then silica precipitated upon the dead tree trunks creating the white “bobby sock” trees. This silica slowly impregnates the wood and over time, could eventually petrify the wood.  For the whole story with all images, see The Lone Tree | a 7 Image Story.

The Lone Tree | a 7 Image Story

The Lone Tree | BadlandsThe Lone Tree | a 7 Image Story  Lone tree images convey sense of quiet solitude.  They remind us how a solitary figure stands tall against all odds.  The lone tree provides raw strength to the image as well as a sense of resilience and perseverance.

Like many photographers, the lone tree is one of my favorite subjects.  Lone trees grow in most areas of the planet.  Capturing an image is relatively easy.  Capturing a good image is bit more challenging.

Each image will be posted individually this week with a bit more narrative under category The Lone Tree.
