Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Great Blue Heron

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Great Blue Heron

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Great Blue Heron  Great Blue Herons like hanging out in tree when they are not wading in water.  This image captures the first time on any of my local walkabouts where a Great Blue Heron was in a tree.  Again, notice how it is standing on one leg on the branch.  For the whole story with all images, see Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | a 7 Image Story.

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Canada Geese

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Canada Geese

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Canada Geese  Sometimes, the secret to capturing a nice image is to show up at the right time.  This late afternoon walkabout uncovered these two Canada Geese watching the sunset.  Notice how the foreground goose is standing on one leg.  It stood there on one leg for a very long time.  For the whole story with all images, see Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | a 7 Image Story.

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Barred Owl

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Barred Owl

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | Barred Owl   Barred Owls are mostly active at night.  Sometimes they hunt in the daytime as well.  This Barred Owl, sometimes known as a Hoot Owl due to its distinctive call, was hunting as I was hiking on the trail in a wooded forest preserve.  After missing its prey, it perched in a tree along the trail.  It really blends into its surroundings.  In the spring before the leaves fully grow out, it’s possible to see them.  Soon, the leaves will make it nearly impossible to see them.  For the whole story with all images, see Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | a 7 Image Story.

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | a 7 Image Story

Spring 2019 Hodgepodge | DahliaSpring 2019 Hodgepodge | a 7 Image Story This year’s spring was colder and wetter than normal.  Trees budded later than usual.  The flowers seemed to be a bit later in blooming.  Migratory water fowl passed through a little later.  These images were all captured on my daily walkabouts.

There’s nothing like rain on a flower to help create an interesting image.  This year we’ve had plenty of rain for my walkabouts.

Each image will be posted individually this week with a bit more narrative under category Spring 2019 Hodgepodge.
