Autumn Leaves | Backlight Back lighted subjects make interesting photographs. It’s so easy to pass by a backlit subject. Capturing a backlit subject is technically more difficult than a front lit subject. Still, it might make a really dynamic image. Autumn Leaves | a 7 Image Story When we think of fall color, we often think of beautiful vistas of multi-colored trees. The color, of course, comes from the tree’s leaves. The leaves themselves can offer a beautiful mosaic when viewed close up. These images were captured using an extension tube to focus closer and magnify the leaf itself.
My knowledge of trees and leaves is limited. Knowledge is not required to enjoy the beauty in the detail and symmetry of leaves. On a recent northern Michigan walkabout, these images seemed like the most impressive. Obviously, they include several maple leaves. On the others, I have not idea what type of tree they come from. They all display their own beauty.
Photographer’s Note The 21mm MOVO extension tube for the Nikon 1 V3 worked quite nicely. All the electronic metering and focusing functions worked to make capturing an image reasonably easy. Of course, the camera and lens must be physically moved closer or farther until the image is in focus range. The extension tube moves the lens further from the focal plane of the camera and the front element of the lens closer to the subject. The closer the focus, the more magnification! These images were the first I have captured using extension tubes.
