Sep 21, 2021 | AF 80-400mm f4.5-5.6D ED VR, Great Horned Owl, Nikon D200, Nikon D200 Soup
Nikon D200 Soup | Great Horned Owl Great Horned Owls are large owls with two distinctive feathered tufts, not horns, on their head. They are nocturnal, but occasionally you may see them during the daytime. They seldom build their own nests. Instead, they take over nests built by other large birds like hawks.
The Back Story This owl sat on that branch for something like 40 minutes while cars stopped along the roadside in Yellowstone to take a look and capture a few images. The road followed the river far below along a ridge line in the mountains. Although the owl and I were about level height, I was standing by the road using a stone fence as a tripod and the owl was high in the tree about 50 yards away next to the river. Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon D200 Soup | Allie the Pug Allie looks bigger than life in this image. Pugs are small dogs, but they look rough and tough. They aren’t. Black Pugs only have one layer of hair whereas fawn Pugs have two layers. So, they get cold faster in the winter, but if they are not in the sun, they stay cooler in the summer.
The Back Story This image came from a simple click after kneeing down while walking the Pugs. Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Sep 16, 2021 | AF 80-400mm f4.5-5.6D ED VR, Nikon D200, Nikon D200 Soup, Piper PA-18 Super Cub
Nikon D200 Soup | Float Plane Weekend This Piper Super Cub is taking off by trying to lift one float up first then the other. A PA-18 Piper Super Cub on floats can take-off from relatively small lakes. Northern Michigan provides some beautiful lake front backgrounds when capturing floatplane images. Wonder how the Super Cub got such a distinctive N number. See Floatplane Weekend | a 7 Image Story for more floatplane images.
The Back Story This image came from a burst of clicks from a boat while panning. Another reason why good panning skills and recent practice are necessary to capture certain types of images. Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.
