The 69th Annual Threshermen’s Reunion started today and will continue each day through Monday, September 4th. Held each year during Labor Day weekend in Pontiac IL, the Central States Threshermen’s Reunion is the 2nd oldest show in the USA. It suddenly occurred to me as I was walking over to a working threshing machine that 100 years ago, almost everyone knew what a threshing machine was. Now, very few people know; let alone know how to operate one. Of course, 100 years ago most people worked in farming or some form of the agriculture business. Now, only a very small percentage of Americans work in agriculture. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be posting several more images as well as video captured today at the reunion. T-33 Shooting Stars Taxiing It’s amazing to me, but some folks go to air shows just for the jets. In fact, some go only for top of the line military jets. These trainers might not get as many clicks as the fighters. Still, you can almost smell the kerosene.

Globe Swift Taxiing at the 2016 AAA Fly-In The Antique Airplane Association fly-in draws aircraft from their bases far and near. Unlike many fly-ins, the AAA fly-in promotes pilots flying during the fly-in, not just to and from. So, it’s not hard to get a ride in some of the coolest antique airplanes flying today.

Great Blue Heron Fishing On my walkabouts, it’s easy to pass up species common to the area like the Great Blue Heron. Great Blue Heron are both common and beautiful. With changing light particularly late in the day, several images of the same heron can look quite different. And, if the heron are accustomed to people in the area, it does not take a very long lens to capture nice images.

US Coast Guard Cutter Mobile Bay 103 at Chicago Air & Water Show The Mobile Bay is a 140-foot Bay-class, state of the art, icebreaker currently stationed at Sturgeon Bay, WI. It uses a low-pressure-air hull lubrication system that forces air and water between the hull and ice which improves its icebreaking capabilities by reducing resistance against the hull.
