Smooth Manistee Light
Smooth Manistee Light The day continued to be very bright and windy. A long exposure seemed appropriate.

Timeless Manistee Light With wind blowing at 25 knots, waves at 3 to 4 feet, and hard sun light, a long exposure seems impossible. Enter a 6 stop neutral density filer and magic, a 5 second exposure tames those waves, calms the wind a bit, and takes those shadows out of the image. The only problem; keeping the camera still with all that wind and sand blowing in your face. A tripod helps, but only a little.
The Manistee Light was basking in midday sun. What’s a photog to do? Well, maybe a B&W image will take advantage of the harsh light and sharp shadows. And, a little under exposure might help increase the drama. Any way you look at it; it’s a nice day near the lake.
Colorful China Skydiver The color in this last image of the parachute championships just seems to grab you and not let go.
A Yellow Jacket wasp can sometimes be mistaken for a Bee, but they are actually wasps which are only distant relatives to Bees. Yellow jackets may occasionally visit flowers for sugar, but unlike Bees, they are carnivorous with insects being their favorite. Also, they have no brushes or pollen baskets for carrying pollen. Like Honeybees and Bubble Bees, they have a painful sting.
Milkweed Seeds were blowing in the wind along tonight’s walkabout.
Michigan Wine Country will soon be in full color. It’s one of the nicest times of the year in northern Michigan.
This German Shepherd, Onka, was trained by the renowned trainers the monks of New Skete. When you agree adopt a dog, you must also agree to continue with the New Skete training program, which emphasizes both teaching the dog and strengthening the dog/human bond. They breed their German shepherds for both a good temperament and a sound body. From the time they are born, New Skete dogs live in healthy social canine-human relationships. After a dog gets adopted, the social training continues with its new owner. Onka remains one of the nicest and biggest dogs you’ll ever meet.
