Several herds of Bighorn Sheep roamed Yellowstone NP this week. Actually, it’s the largest number of Bighorn Sheep I have ever seen in the park. They’re so majestic. They seem to be more comfortable when they standing on the side of a hill or mountain. Just walking down the road does not appeal to them. For you photogs, this image would have been impossible if not for the Nikon 1 V1 with the 70-300mm lens making it 810mm with the 2.7 crop factor.

Lamar River This year Yellowstone NP had a mild winter. Breakup on the Lamar River has already begun. As I was capturing this image, loud cracks could be easily heard from large blocks of ice breaking away and crashing into the river. Spring will likely come early as well.

Bighorn Sheep seemed more plentiful this winter at Yellowstone than I have seen in prior visits. The snow cover in Yellowstone this winter was very thin compared to most years. Perhaps, the thin layer of snow allowed them to roam more freely.

Yellowstone Steam Yellowstone continues to be one of my favorite places to visit; fall, winter, or spring. In the winter, the steam from the geologic features freezes in beautiful ways. This visit to Yellowstone was short, but sweet as always.

Platte River Sunrise Finally, it’s March. To me, March means Sandhill Cranes on the Platte River in Nebraska. Even though the temperature outside has been in the below zero range, in just a few weeks, the Sandhill’s will be visiting the Platte.
