Clouds

Clouds

Clouds  Tonight’s ride into O’Hare ORD from Austin AUS was routed via Rockford RFD due to storms over O’Hare.  This image was captured on approach into Rockford with a nice thunderstorm in the background.  It was one of those days; if you have time to spare; go by air.

Bats

Bats

Bats  The underside of the Congress Ave bridge in Austin, over the Colorado River, happens to be the daytime home for thousands of bats.  Just before dark, they begin to come out for an evening of fun and games as well as a bit of hunting.  It’s quite a spectacle; in good weather, hundreds of people come out to see the bats.

Painted Turtle

Painted Turtle

The Painted Turtle is the most widespread native turtle of North America. It lives in slow-moving fresh waters.  Also, fossils show that the painted turtle existed 15 million years ago; it’s a tough little critter.  However, it’s too heavy for a lily pad.  This guy took off into the water onto a lily pad, but it gave way under the turtles weight.
