Austin

Austin

Austin just before dark!  This image was captured handheld.  At 1/4 sec, it’s at the edge of my ability to get a sharp image handheld.  So, perhaps, it’s not the best image, but still it shows that you can get a passable image even if you’re not equipped with the proper gear; in this case a tripod.  The underside of this bridge, the Congress Ave bridge, over the Colorado River, happens to be the daytime home for thousands of bats.  Just before dark, they begin to come out for an evening of fun and games as well as a bit of hunting.  It’s quite a spectacle; in good weather, hundreds of people come out to see the bats.  It takes several hours for all the bats to leave the bridge.

Great Blue Heron

Great Blue Heron

If you have followed my blog at all, you know I really like to capture images of the Great Blue Heron.  Several folks have asked why.  Well, it got me to thinking.  The Great Blue is a big beautiful bird and I am partial to larger birds.  It’s common in many parts of the country so there are many photographic opportunities to capture images with multiple poses.  And, usually when I am home, my nightly walkabout travels by areas frequented by them.  So, more often than not, when I see a Great Blue Heron, I lift my camera and click a burst or two; just for the fun of it.
