Cardinal Again!

Cardinal

A Cardinal again you say?  Well, yes; they frequent my walkabout routes.  And, today was a busy day so the walkabout went by fast and this image was my best shot of the day.  Sure, I can do better; just not today.  But, that’s not the point of my walkabouts and the image of the day.  One of my basketball coaches used to tell us at every practice and every game: “you win some, you lose some, and some come up tied, but you have to get dressed for them all.”  Sometimes, a big part of photography is just showing up.

Wolf

Wolf

Wolf  Just received an invitation to do a captive wolf photo shoot.  Normally, I just don’t do that kind of thing with a couple of exceptions.  One exception is Wolf Park in Indiana.  They conduct wolf research in conjunction with Purdue University and the Yellowstone Wolf Research groups.  They have a very large enclosed habitat for a wolf pack that includes a lake, woodlands, and prairie.  A couple of times a year, after a half day of training about wolf habits, they allow photogs, accompanied by Wolf Park staff, to go into the enclosure to photograph at close hand, their wolf pack.  It’s an creditable experience which is virtually, impossible in the wild.  Today’s image comes from one of these photo shoots.  Still, today’s invitation, from a more opportunistic place, will go unanswered.  Someday, hopefully I’ll get back to Wolf Park.

Newborn Bison

Newborn Bison

Newborn Bison  May Day; in the wild, it’s time for babies to get born.  Today’s daily image comes from Yellowstone National Park at about this time of year, two years ago.  The newborn, still unsure of its ability to walk, was actually 15-20 minutes old when this image was captured.  The national parks in April and May abound with similar stories of new life enjoying the warming spring weather.
