Steller’s Jay

11/14/2013 Steller's Jay

Steller’s Jay  This guy was just having a good time hanging out in the evergreen trees at about the 8000 foot level on our hike.  My bird knowledge is limited, but I think it’s a Steller’s Jay.  Looks a bit like a Blue Jay, but clearly, is not.  He did not seem terribly upset with our passing through his territory so a few simple clicks were easily captured.  Again, the Nikon 1 V1 with the 70-300 lens made the click.  There’s nothing like a good, light camera on a hike uphill.

Eastern Sierra

Eastern Sierra  Last year about this time, I was fortunate enough to attend a seminar in the wildlife photography capital of the world, Mammoth Lakes, CA.  This image was captured on the drive back to LAX just before sunset.  The Eastern Sierra is a beautiful place; hope I get a chance to go back someday.  Seminar was great too.

Back to Reality

11/11/2013 Back to Reality

Back to Reality  The first snow of the season covered northern Illinois today.  As snowfalls go, it wasn’t much, but it serves as a stark reminder; winter is just around the corner.  Time to think about capturing snow; even in the dark.  Perhaps, I should sit down and catch some snow.

Running Bison

11/08/2013 Running Bison

Running Bison  While driving down one of Yellowstone’s gravel roads in the Lamar Valley, all of the sudden, a herd of about 50 Bison appear on a small hill right next to the road and start running down the hill at full stride.  They passed maybe 10 yards in front of our stopped vehicle.  Bison really begin to look big when they are running right at you in full stride.
