Kilauea Hike A walkabout, or hike if you prefer, around Kilauea can be demanding, but not necessarily. It’s less than 4000 ft MSL and generally not very hot. You can see the black lava in the background next to the forest. The forested areas provide a very lush environment, like the image I posted a few days ago. Of course, practice caution when hiking in the park; many hazards await, some under foot.
