Gray Squirrel in the Forest These squirrels seem to be hard at work storing food for the winter. On every recent walkabout through the woods, they have been busy carrying nuts. Perhaps, they know something we don’t.

Gray Squirrel Eating Crabapples This guy sure doesn’t look very gray. It’s been a good winter for squirrels so far. The temperature has not been too cold. Snow cover only really covered the ground in December. Notice how this squirrel has not missed many meals.

Birdseed Thief The black birds in particular were very unhappy with a birdseed thief in their feeder. Their loud protests did not seem to bother the squirrel though. Interestingly, another squirrel on the ground was sharing the birdseed with morning doves and sparrows; all on the ground right next to each other.

A Squirrel Must Eat! You just run across critters when you take a hike.

Gray Squirrel On today’s walkabout, I was only carrying the 50mm lens. Of course, on the Nikon 1 V3, 50mm means 135mm because of the 2.7 crop factor. So, I could not get to close to this squirrel milling about in the underbrush. Luckily, the light kissed him just right; a simple click.
