Nikon D300 Salad | Oxbow Bend Snake River Shore Line

Nikon D300 Salad | Oxbow Bend Snake River Shore Line

Nikon D300 Salad | Oxbow Bend Snake River Shore Line   OxBow Bend is located along the Snake River near Great Tetons NP.  It’s one of the most photographed places on earth.  This view at Oxbow Bend, away from the mountains, creates a bit different mood.  Of course, without the nice morning blue sky, this image would be flat without the cold blue color cast.  The sky makes all the difference.

The Back Story   To capture this image, I arrived at the the Ox Bow Bend turnoff a little before o’dark thirty.  A light snow cover greeted me at the turnoff.  Just after first light, I climbed down the slightly frozen river bank to river’s edge.  Upon setting up my tripod behind several rocks, I waited for any wildlife that might amble by my position.  The crisp, cold morning air, the light spring snow cover, and the calm, no wind quiet of this remote place made me appreciate the scene in front of my lens.  Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon D300 Salad | Illinois Farm

Nikon D300 Salad | Illinois Farm   Even the flat land of Illinois sometimes makes a dramatic landscape image. This image was captured just as rain showers were moving off stage left.  Within an hour, the clouds were gone and the sun had set.  The challenge, of course, is to capture the essence of the moment.

The Back Story   This image was a simple click after stopping along the gravel road.    Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon D200 Soup | Badlands NP

9/14/2021 Nikon D200 Soup | Badlands NP

Nikon D200 Soup | Badlands NP   This storm over the Badlands brings the Great Plains to mind.  The Badlands are along the western edge of the Great Plains.  The prairie seems to stretch forever, even on this rolling terrain.  Thunderstorms rumble over the Badlands frequently during the summer months.  In fact, they are one of the trademarks of the Great American Prairie, which ranges from the Rocky Mountains to the Midwest and from Canada to Oklahoma.  Nothing reminds us more of America more than the Great American Prairie.  For additional information and images, see The Great American Prairie | a 7 Image Story and America the Beautiful | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story    Just as I was about to leave the north entrance of Badlands NP, I noticed the thunderstorm northwest of the park.  I stopped the car and used it as a tripod.  This image was captured by shear luck.  The camera did not have a lightning detector on it.  Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon D200 Soup | Yellowstone Wild   This location is among my favorite places in Yellowstone. Whenever I turn off the road and stop here, no one else is around.  It feels remote even though it’s just off the main road.

Landscape Portfolio | Still Water

Landscape Portfolio | Still Water   Yellowstone NP has so much for a photographer like Still Water.  It’s a photographer’s paradise.  Even with bald skies and no wind, Yellowstone never disappoints.

The Back Story  I have captured images at this river for several years.  For some reason, I have only had bald skies.  Still, when you are visiting the park on a periodic basis, you get the weather you get.  Notice the emphasis on the river’s clear water; not the skies.

Landscape Portfolio | Road to Oxbow Bend

Landscape Portfolio | Road to Oxbow Bend   Some folks claim Oxbow Bend to be the most photographed location in North America. It seems to be beautiful year around.  On this particular day, this image appeared in the late morning at the edge of the nice light.   For more information and images, see Grand Tetons | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story  On this morning, after capturing images from daybreak, I went back to Oxbow Bend and this image just appeared. Actually, I captured numerous bracketed images in anticipation of a possible HDR, but they were not necessary.

Landscape Portfolio | Snake River Shore Line at Oxbow Bend

Landscape Portfolio | Snake River Shore Line at Oxbow Bend    OxBow Bend is located along the Snake River near Great Tetons NP.  It’s one of the most photographed places in the country.  In this image, Mt. Moran stands majestic in the background.  Several coyote packs could be heard in the distance.  Also, black bear, grizzly bear, moose, elk, and wolves call this area home.  Unfortunately, the wildlife did not appear except for a couple of river otters.  However, the crisp, cold morning air, the light spring snow cover, and the calm, no wind quiet of this remote place made me appreciate the scene in front of my lens.  As Mt. Moran became reflected in the Snake River and the morning shadows began to change, this composition appeared.
