Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Oxbow Bend Aspens

11/20/2021 Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Oxbow Bend Aspens

Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Oxbow Bend Aspens   The Aspens turn magical by fall’s setting sun in the Grand Tetons.  This morning when photographing Oxbow Bend, I turned around to see a beautiful Aspen grove.  Returning just before sunset, I was rewarded again with the setting sun shining through the Aspens.  For similar images, see Grand Tetons | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story  A simple click while hiking captured this image.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

11/17/2021 Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Patagonia Lake

Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Patagonia Lake    Patagonia Lake lies just south of Tucson.  In the winter, when this image was captured, it was 60ºF.  It’s a rather pleasant lake and close enough to Tucson to make a nice day trip.  Sunsets aren’t too bad either.  See Way Cool | a 7 Image Story for more of my favorite off beat images.

Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Yellowstone River

11/15/2021 Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Yellowstone River

Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Yellowstone River    Yellowstone’s first snow of the year in mid November made for a great day to capture images along the Yellowstone River.  A snowstorm had fallen the night before, covering everything in sparkling fresh snow.  The Yellowstone River, flowing north out of the park, was not frozen due to the thermal features of the park.  It does not look like much of a river in this image, but it becomes a nice size river as it travels further north.   For more Yellowstone images and information, see Yellowstone NP Wild | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story  There’s nothing like Yellowstone in the winter.  Yellowstone always provides perspective and introspection.  Every time I go to Yellowstone, the experience changes with new vistas, wildlife, challenges, and accomplishments.  We only had a few minutes to capture this image between snow showers.  Although it was midday, the sun was shining through a thin cloud layer softening the light.  Blowing snow and the calming sound of water ripples from the river completed the experience.    Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon D300 Salad | Chicago Air & Water    The Chicago Air & Water Show is a really nice venue for capturing aircraft images along the beach.  Before the air show gets started, there’s time for a nice Chicago skyline image.  For more information and images, see Chicago Air & Water | a 7 Image Story.

Landscape Portfolio | Yellowstone Early Snow

Landscape Portfolio | Yellowstone Early Snow

Landscape Portfolio | Yellowstone Early Snow   Yellowstone’s first snow of the year in mid November made for a great day to capture images along the Yellowstone River.  A snowstorm had fallen the night before, covering everything in sparkling fresh snow.  Actually, we only had a few minutes to capture this image between snow showers.

The Back Story  As we drove south from the north entrance, the road crossed over the Yellowstone River in several places.  Just after crossing a bridge, a turnoff offered us a chance to stop.  The snow was knee deep in places as I slid down the river bank toward the river.  After clearing through some trees, the river bank offered several great views.  Although it was midday, the sun was shining through a thin cloud layer softening the light.

Fine Art Portfolio | Yellowstone Tree

Fine Art Portfolio | Yellowstone Tree

Fine Art Portfolio | Yellowstone Tree   These striking trees stand tall against mostly clear skies.  Ground water and steam runoff from Yellowstone’s thermal features periodically floods the area around these lodgepole pine trees; killing them. Several geysers can be seen steaming in the background. Then silica precipitates upon the dead tree trunks creating the white “bobby sock” trees. This silica slowly impregnates the wood and over time, could eventually petrify the wood.

The Back Story  This image of this lone tree was captured along the foot path to the Mud Pots.  After a repositioning a few times, it was a simple click. For more images and information about Yellowstone, see Yellowstone NP Wild | a 7 Image Story.

Fine Art Portfolio | Yellowstone River   The mighty Yellowstone River flows north out of Yellowstone NP into the Missouri River.  It was not frozen due to the thermal features of the park.  With the sun partially obscured, this image has a certain mystique about it.

The Back Story  This image was captured from a bridge over the Yellowstone River a few miles inside the north entrance to the park.  Actually, aside from the cold, it was an easy click.  For more images and information about Yellowstone, see Yellowstone NP Wild | a 7 Image Story.
