Entering the Ranch This evening, just before sunset, the Gallatin River exploded in color as we were crossing the bridge to the ranch. Its been one of those perfect October days, 70 and sunny, in Montana.

Ranch Walkabout

Ranch Walkabout Back on the ranch for a while before dinner; a walkabout seemed like a good idea. A short walk up to Castle Rock always yields a few good images.

The Absaroka Range seen through the pass at Bozeman, MT. The storm over Bozeman seems really dramatic with warm sunset light coming through the clouds.

Last Night

Last Night Most good things come to an end. This image was from our last night on the ranch and ends my string of Montana images from the trip. If I find another good image, I may post it in the future. Back to reality; everyday shooting! If you notice the string of posts, it was the D3x for landscapes and the V1 for wildlife. Actually, the two bodies worked very well together. The V1 with the FT-1 was slung around my neck and on my side with a sun sniper strap usually with the 70-200mm lens attached. And, the D3x was in my hands usually with the PC-E lens attached. The tripod stayed in the truck unless needed to reduce the shutter speed or for a night shot. Although, this moon image was handheld using a post to steady the camera.

Sunset on the Ranch

Sunset on the Ranch Just before dinner at a friend’s house, the sun set at the ranch. Although I was a bit late for the sunset, the photo still gives us an idea of what life on the ranch can be. This image was captured without a tripod by carefully balancing the camera on the deck railing.
