Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Nevada City Train

11/05/2021 Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Nevada City Train

Nikon D3x Bread Sticks | Nevada City Train    This old train is permanently parked outside the Nevada City train station.  The old mining camp of Nevada City started when gold was discovered nearby in 1863.  Nevada City was comprised mostly of miners working several nearby mining districts.  In the beginning, the mining district was part of the Idaho Territory.  In fact, until neighboring Virginia City became the Montana territorial capitol in 1865, there was no law except for the miner’s court.  Now, although this old west town has no residents, it’s maintained by folks in Virginia city.  It’s a cool place to visit in Montana.  For more information and images, see Nevada City | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story   This image was captured with a simple click while walking by the train station.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon D200 Soup | Gallatin River Ranch Road

9/23/2021 Nikon D200 Soup | Gallatin River Ranch Road

Nikon D200 Soup | Gallatin River Ranch Road   This road leads south and ends at the Gallatin River, which has some of the best fly fishing on the planet.  Big country has big ranches with long gravel roads that can distort perspective.  It’s really hard to tell how far are those mountains in the distance.  For the whole story with all images, see Gallatin River Ranch | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story   This image came from a simple click while hiking.  Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Absaroka Range   The Absaroka Range as seen through the pass at Bozeman, MT.  While hiking through the high desert countryside, this storm grew over the Absaroka Range.  It seemed really dramatic with warm sunset light coming through the clouds.  For more storm cloud images, see Storm Clouds | a 7 Image Story.

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Montana Hank

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Montana Hank

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Montana Hank   A friend at the Gallatin River Ranch asked us to their house for dinner one night.  Before dinner we took a few pictures from their deck.  This image of yours truly, the ranch, and the Bridger Mountains is a decent example of a landscape portrait.  The whole idea is to get a good portrait and a good landscape image in the same photograph.

The Back Story  To keep as much of the foreground and background in focus, I chose auto iso, aperture priority, and f/8, then handed the camera to our host to make the click.  From a compositional standpoint, I just told the host to keep me off center.  Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Landscape Portfolio | High Desert Montana

Landscape Portfolio | High Desert Montana

Landscape Portfolio | High Desert Montana   On particular day our daily walk wound through the hills on the west side of the ranch.  The entire ranch is considered to be high desert.  These hills are a bit higher.  This high desert is also considered rattle snake country.  You do occasionally see them while hiking.  To see more, check out  Gallatin River Ranch | a 7 Image Story.

The Back Story    On our daily walk through the hills wound along a back country trail.  This image is just one of many beautiful scenes along the way.  Just too many simple clicks to count!
