Summer Walkabout Flowers | EntranceSummer Walkabout Flowers | a 7 Image Story  Sometimes, my walkabouts bring to mind simple pleasures.  The walkabout might not run across any wildlife or even nice landscapes, but simple flowers always brighten my day on summer walks.  On this walk lilies seemed to catch my eye a bit more than others.  This walkabout started with a path into the wetlands before winding back through the streets.

Day lilies seem to come in every color imaginable.  Actually, the proper spelling is “daylily” as one word, but some dictionaries spell it as two words.  There are more than 80,000 different daylilies.  They have been cultivated for over 2,500 years.  It’s one of the most adaptable landscape plants in North America.  The super blooming Entrapment Daylily can grow 800 blooms per plant.  It’s easy to grow and produces vibrant, 5″ blooms that repeat during the season. They show their blooms in late spring during the normal Daylily season and then again just before fall.

Ten species of flowers are called Coneflowers. They are commonly found in the Midwest growing in prairies and wooded areas. They bloom from early to late summer.  Drumstick Allium is a type of ornamental onion with egg-shaped blooms.  It blooms in early summer with oval shaped burgundy colored blooms on wiry stems.
