Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Lake Sunset

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Lake Sunset   Just before dark can sometimes be the best time to capture images.

The Back Story  This image was captured handheld in manual exposure mode.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Super Cub Pilot

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Super Cub Pilot

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Super Cub Pilot   This pilot sure looks good as he docks the Super Cub.  Besides being my brother, he’s a pretty good pilot.  See Floatplane Weekend | a 7 Image Story for more floatplane images.

The Back Story  Even at 1/60 second shutter speed, the propeller is blurred but the white tips are still faint.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Geronimo

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Geronimo   A Geronimo is a remanufactured Piper PA-23 Apache with many mods.  This beautiful example was flying around the airport with a multi-engine student pilot taking his check ride.  And, yes, he passed with flying colors.

The Back Story  While driving past the airport, I noticed this beautiful plane.  Again, the benefit of having a small carry camera is that you can always carry it with you.  Sometimes, the best camera is the one you have in your hands.   Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Sailplane

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Sailplane

Nikon 1 V1 Potpourri | Sailplane   Sailplanes are just, very cool.  Without power, they fly so quietly; much like an Eagle soars.  While soaring through the air with no sound except the wind hitting the airframe, all you hear is the wind noise.  It’s more like flying with the birds than flying an airplane.  Soaring like an eagle with not a care in the world except one: catching your next thermal to go back up!

The Back Story  The Nikon 1 V1 with 2.7 crop factor and 70-300mm zoom allowed for a variety of compositions.  As this image shows, the Nikon 1 V1 and the FT-1 with the firmware update works great in continuous focus mode.  Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Skiplanes & Seaplanes | Republic RC-3 Seabee Arrives

Skiplanes & Seaplanes | Republic RC-3 Seabee Arrives  This Republic RC-3 Seabee water taxis to a dock at the seaplane base for AirVenture.  The soft evening light really makes the image.  Seebees are not be the fastest planes in the sky.  However, they make up for it in utility and beauty.  Interesting seaplane if you don’t mind a 100 mph cruise!  Most Seebees were built from 1945-1947 so the nice ones today have been restored.  For the whole story with all images, see Oshkosh Seaplane Base | a 7 Image Story.

Skiplanes & Seaplanes | Cessna Caravan Landing

Skiplanes & Seaplanes | Cessna Caravan Landing  The Caravan is a rugged airplane ready to accomplish many different types of missions whether on wheels or floats.  This amphibian Caravan was landing on a grass runway using its retractable gear.  It came to the fly-in from its home on the water of a nearby lake.  Its powerful turboprop engine delivers the high performance and low operating costs.  For more information, see Floatplanes & Amphibians | a 7 Image Story.
