Oshkosh 2022 | North American T-6 Texan Landing Photogs pay a great deal of attention to the background. To get the prop blurred, the shutter speed must be low enough to make it blur. To get the T-6 Texan in focus, really good panning skills are needed. The panning makes the background blur. Sometimes, it works out well; sometimes not so much. In this image, the T-6 looks nice. The background is blurred, but the blurred green trees seem to be a bit distracting. Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Nikon 1 V3 Hodgepodge | North American T-6 Texan The North American T-6 Texan Two-Seat Advanced Trainer is a military single-engine aircraft primarily used as a trainer. It’s first flight was on April 1st, 1935. Before the end of its production run, nearly 16,000 planes were built. The T-6 Texan was used extensively during WWII and the Korean conflict. It was even used to some extent during the Vietnam War. In fact, a few are still in operational service today. Of course, many are flown regularly in fly-ins and air shows around the world. See TBM Avenger Gathering 2018 | a 7 Image Story for other aircraft at the gathering.
The Back Story This image is a classic example of using panning technique to both blur the propeller and show motion by making the background blur. I began panning at start of takeoff roll, began a burst well ahead of this image, and continued well past the image. Note: I post an image everyday at hankconrad.com.

Pilots Those cool airplanes won’t fly without pilots. In fact, the day could come when we will not have qualified pilots to fly some of the older airplanes. Take the B-26 medium bomber! There are no B-26s flying today. How long will it be before all the qualified pilots for the B-26 are gone? Actually, not long! Then, when a B-26 is restored to flying condition and made airworthy, learning to fly it will be done by test pilots just like learning to fly a brand new airplane. Unfortunately, some airplanes will never fly again. Instead, their existence will be relegated to museums. Enjoy the planes flying at summer air shows and fly-ins.

Even the T-6 Texan look beautiful on the grass runway. And, the T-6 was one of the youngest, or newest if you prefer, warbirds attending the fly-in.
