ORD Weather Sometimes, even the world’s busiest airport can experience some dramatic weather. On this day, a few weeks ago, we landed between storms. The bright color planes against the cloudy sky and international terminal made a simple click possible.
Piper Cub on Skis Ski plane weekend is coming soon; only a month away. Already the lakes are frozen and there’s plenty of snow in northern Michigan. Twice a year, a courageous group of pilots come together to be bush pilots for a weekend. In the winter on skis and in the summer on floats, they get back to the basics and renew some of those bush pilot skills.
Flying First Nothing like starting the year off right by flying on the first day of the year. Sure, the image could be better with reflections caused by shooting through the window. Still, what a very nice day for January 1st; about 40ºF and light winds! And, after flying awhile, those nice, big home base runways look mighty good. Here’s looking forward to a great 2017!

The Hangar Party kicked off Gaylord’s Air Show. It featured a live swing band with 1940s period dress optional. Several couples dressed up and many also wore WWII military dress. Mix in a little food and a few old cars; it was a very nice evening of fun and dancing with a B-17 for a backdrop.
O’hare, ORD, one of the largest airports in the world can be difficult to photograph. This image shows only half of the runways.
OK, it’s not the greatest image. That said, it’s not often when flying into ORD, O’Hare, on a stormy day, do you get a chance to capture an image of the entire field through the clouds and mist. Sometimes, if you’re ready when the opportunity presents itself, you can capture the image. I had my camera out; resting on my briefcase. All of the sudden, the clouds parted and there it was, right in front of me, O’hare International Airport. I grabbed the camera turning on the power on the way to my cheek; finger on the shutter; half way down to auto focus, and click. A simple click and the scene was gone; we were back in the clouds.
