Warm Sunset In the middle of winter, it’s nice to think about summer.
Just After O’dark Thirty Why awake and be on location by o’dark thirty? Photogs know all to well. Moreover, photographers as well as bird watchers, nature lovers, and many others will gather, as they do every year in mid March, to see the Sandhill Cranes on the Platte River in Nebraska. The cranes lift off the river just after sunrise. In this image, they are still roosting on the river just below the horizon. They leave the river in flocks sometimes numbering in the thousands, even tens of thousands.
Lake & Clouds Black & whites can be a mixed bag. Many times, they are perceived while looking through the viewfinder. Other times, like this image, they come together in post. Either way, it’s more art than science.
Lockheed T-33 Shooting Star The T-33 Shooting Star, a two-seat version of the USAF’s first jet fighter, the F-80 Shooting Star, was the most widely used jet trainer in the world and continues to serve in various armed forces today. It entered service during the 1950s and was the USAFs first jet trainer.
TBM Avenger The 2nd annual TBM Avenger reunion will soon be back to Peru, IL. Yes, on Saturday May 20, 2017, many Grumman TBM Avengers will gather at Illinois Valley Regional Airport; possibly making it the largest gathering of airworthy Avengers, at least, since last years event. Really looking forward to it; last year’s reunion was a wonderful event; close to home.
American Pelican They’ll be back soon. The American Pelicans should be coming back in March. Perhaps, they’ll be back a little sooner this year given how warm its been lately.
Knik Glacier near Palmer This image, taken in July, comes from my 1995 trip to Alaska which will be featured in a series of posts this summer. The tops of these peaks are just over 10,000 feet. The image started as a Kodachrome slide. Recently, I scanned the slide and restored the image.
