Unlike most owls, the Great Horned Owl does come out during daylight hours. This guy sat on that branch for something like 40 minutes while cars stopped along the roadside in Yellowstone to take a look and capture a few images. The road followed the river far below along a ridge line in the mountains. Although the owl and I were about level height, I was standing by the road and the owl was high in the tree about 50 yards away next to the river.
Elk Bugling Fall in Yellowstone can be majestic with the Bull Elks bugling during their mating season. It’s truly the call of the wild. This guy had gathered his rather large harem around him.
A Pug’s Face Although not the face of a perfect Pug, Nick’s face depicts his character yet hides his superior intelligence.
Horse on the Ranch On a late afternoon drive around the ranch several November’s ago, this horse was awash in sunset light. He almost looked like he had been posed in the wood fence corral for us to capture an image or two.

F-16 Taxiing This F-16 Fighting Falcon taxied through smoke left behind from a simulated bomb run at Rockford AirFest a few years ago.
Koala Koalas are also as cute as Pugs. Of course, Koalas are not indigenous to the US. This guy lives at the San Diego zoo. The image was captured a few years with a D200. Those now older DSLRs can produce fine images.
Great Blue Heron Sitting This Great Blue Heron stayed in the same place on the bank of the lake all day. Sometimes, it stood up. Sometimes, it sat. But, it stayed there. I thought it might be injured or sick. Finally, in later afternoon, it left. I did not see it leave so I picked up the camera and went out to see if it was anywhere to be seen. As I was walking along the lakeshore, it was fishing in the shallows. Nice to see it was in good health!
