Illinois Autumn

Illinois Autumn

Illinois Autumn  Fall in Illinois can be as beautiful as anywhere.  After capturing this image, I just had to drive down the two track to get closer to the color.  Never mind, it was probably private property.  Hey, I was a farm boy; they won’t mind.  Well, they didn’t.  They did leave a nice nail to puncture my tire.  And, so it goes; another eventful day pretending to be a photographer.

Steam off the Madison River

Steam off the Madison River

Steam off the Madison River  Cold morning steam off the warm Madison River in Yellowstone NP make for a crisp image.  The steam this time of year is water vapor.  However, the Madison flows all winter long due to Yellowstone’s thermal features.  In very cold January and February temperatures, the steam becomes a mixture of water vapor and ice crystals.

Burning Bush

Burning Bush

Burning Bush  Tonight’s walkabout was late; after sunset.  Notice the ISO 3200.  The Nikon 1 V3 has a good bit of noise at anything above ISO 800 and some noise below ISO 800.  I routinely pass my V3 images through noise reduction software.  It’s one of the prices we must pay for a 1 inch censor and a 2.7 crop.  The images cleanup nicely in post.  It’s a tradeoff I’m willing to make to get a very light carry camera for my walkabouts.

Bees at Work

Bees at Work

Bees at Work  On tonight’s walkabout, I was surprised to find bees still working hard this late in October.  Bees play an essential role in ecosystems. A third of all our food depends on their pollination. A world without bees would be devastating for food production.  Save the bees.
