Uncle Ed

Uncle Ed

Uncle Ed passed last week; his services and burial were held today.  Uncle Ed, my mother’s youngest brother, was the family photographer.  He inspired and encouraged me when I became interested in photography as a young boy.  After my parents bought me a Kodak Signet, he gave me my first light meter.  It still works fine today.  And, since the Signet was a totally manual camera, I really needed a light meter.

He was an old time photographer; a “get it right in the camera not the darkroom” type of photographer.  He never really embraced digital photography; although, I think his latest camera might have been digital.  Of course, I will strive to improve so that one day I may be as good a photographer as he was. One of my finest moments as a photographer was when he and his wife wanted one of my images framed to hang in their house.
The entire family will miss Uncle Ed.  I will miss him and his photography.  Now, I am the family’s oldest photographer; perhaps, a dubious honor, but I’ll try my best to live up to the high standards he set.
