Just before Dark These late sunset shots can take a toll. On the walk back in the dark along the shoreline path, I stumbled on a rock and scraped my knee. A tripod can sometimes help as a walking stick, but tonight I was using tree limbs as tripods or shooting handheld. Sometimes photography can be like scuba diving where you should always have a dive buddy.

One area of my walkabout tonight was lined with Hibiscus. The late afternoon sun provided sweet light to capture the image. Although flowers have not historically been my favorite images, I am getting more interested particularly with the larger flowers.

Seascape Sunset Tonight’s walkabout was a bit late and a bit unusual for me. Seascapes do not come easy for a Midwesterner. More on my current photo shoot later. It’s late and o’dark thirty will be coming all too soon. And, for you photogs; yes, the Nikon 1 V1 does a nice job in manual mode too.

Toad’s World Toad’s live in a world a bit smaller than us humans. They have, by definition, a very different perspective on nature’s beauty.

Great Blue Heron Great Blue Herons are common around northern Illinois. Still, whenever I see one on one of my walkabouts, I just have to “click”. This image was captured in the quiet before the storm, with damaging winds and hail tonight. The Nikon 1 V1 2.7 crop factor sure helps to get the shot without disturbing the bird.

Red-winged Blackbird Red-winged Blackbirds are common in northern Illinois. This guy seemed to be protecting his nest. As I walked along the trail, he was dive bombing me sand making lots of noise. Now, this particular trail is not heavily traveled but is traveled regularly.

A windy takeoff in a Piper Cub on skis takes a while. He lifts one float up to reduce drag before reaching takeoff speed.

Wind Cave NP Perhaps my favorite national park , Wind Cave, never disappoints. This lone tree has been one of my most frequent subjects. And, I have actually captured a couple of images of it I like, although it has been a challenge. Can’t wait until my next visit. Maybe, I’ll capture a better image.
